The use of E-ink screens within organisations varies widely and always depends on specific needs and applications. E-ink technology is typically found in specific sectors or applications because of the unique benefits associated with it. We have been working with Visionect for some time in this regard. Visionect's sustainable, green technology (and vision) is, as far as we are concerned, unrivalled when it comes to energy consumption combined with the readability of such a display. It's all about the overall concept they bring to the market. We go over the USPs of this innovative technology below.
Energy-efficient
E-ink displays consume significantly less energy than traditional LCD or OLED displays. You don't even need an active power supply. This makes E-ink ideal for door signs, displaying opening hours, wayfinding, price information ...
Sunlight readability
E-ink screens have a reflective surface that reflects natural light, similar to paper. This makes them exceptionally readable, even in direct sunlight. This is a key advantage for digital signage and other applications where outdoor readability is essential. The difference in consumption compared to a high brightness screen standing in sunlight is therefore crushing, more on that below.
Static image means no power consumption
E-ink displays do not require a constant power supply to maintain a static image. This means the displayed content is retained even when the device is switched off, minimising power consumption.
Long service life
E-ink screens have a significantly longer lifespan than many other display technologies, they are not subject to image burn-in and other degradation issues. This sometimes occurs with OLED screens, which is the only reason why we do not yet use OLED for digital signage. Logos and other fixed elements can effectively burn-in on OLED displays in a matter of months.
Environmentally friendly
Because of their energy efficiency and durability, E-ink displays are more environmentally friendly than other display technologies. Only when the image changes, a small amount of energy is consumed. This makes E-ink the ideal technology for systems that do not require or have no fixed power connection.
Some figures
On an annual basis, a LED screen consumes 40 to 100 KWh. That amounts to an average of 30 euros per year. An E-ink screen, on the other hand, consumes only 4 to 10 KWh which amounts to 80 cents per year. E-ink screens reduce costs significantly, especially when multiple pixels are involved.
Great line-up from 6 inches to 32 inches
Currently, you have a choice between 6", 13" and 32". The smallest sizes are ideal for use as door signs. You don't need a power supply or wired internet. These are perfect devices to hang standalone somewhere or (magnetically) stick against walls or doors. We always have a few demo units available and would like to invite you to get to know this wonderful technology.
