Matching your goals to display size to viewing distance in digital signage

Before we roll out your digital display network, it is important to establish your intended goals. Our design and strategic plan follows next and must fit within the physical characteristics of the space and the mindset of your employee, citizen or customer.

Viewing distance

  • The viewing distance is the distance between the display and your audience. Consider the available space to allocate displays to specific zones. Evaluate over time whether the positioning of the screens effectively attracts the audience.
  • If space is limited, opt for smaller displays. Larger displays can be overwhelming in a small area. Customers should focus on the content, not the hardware/display itself.
  • For longer distances, text size should be proportionate, using bold typography and contrasting colors. Details are less noticeable on smaller displays, so avoid using small fonts.

Number of pixels and cost

  • The size and type of display are important, but the number of displays usually determines the digital signage experience.
  • If you create many types of content, you'll need more displays to show everything. We typically work with content categories and different playlists.
  • Customers purchase or rent pixels from us. Through a low and fixed monthly fee, these customers can usually start with enough screens without a high initial purchase cost. This price also includes helpdesk support and SLA.

Size and orientation of the Display

  • The size of the display significantly affects digital signage perception. However, bigger isn't always better.
  • Smaller screens are more suitable for shorter distances to the audience, such as restaurants or stores. Larger screens are better for large spaces like shopping malls and airports, where high resolution is essential for visual quality.

Compare digital signage software

By questioning crucial factors such as viewing distance, number of displays, and display size, you can create a display network that not only fits physically within the space but also captures and engages attention. Using a modern digital signage CMS system ensures that your message is consistently and convincingly conveyed. By combining these aspects, you achieve a digital signage solution that perfectly meets your specific needs and goals.
